There’s never been a better time to travel the world, and with the introduction of smartphones, booking websites and travel indexes, finding your dream destination is usually just a few taps and a plane journey away. However, while most major cities and surrounding beautiful locations are all within easy reach, there are some destinations that are well worth the extra effort but are far more remote and off the beaten trail.

Not only does this mean quieter surroundings, fewer tourists and a more authentic cultural experience, it also means have the opportunity to explore some of the most amazing places on Earth. With this in mind, today we’re going to explore nine of the most awe-inspiring destinations of the world that are only available by boat.

#1 – Kamalame Cay

Located on the stunning Western coast of the Bahamas, Kamalame Cay is one of those destinations that will make you feel as though you’re living in a travel brochure or an extra in an Instagram post. Expect white-sand beaches, luscious palm trees, long empty walks in the gentle waves, and a sunset you’ll never forget.

#2 – Paradise Beach, Nevis

Nevis is a tiny island located in the heart of the Caribbean, and if you’re looking for an exclusive getaway, well, the name of this destination should say it all. With clear and rich ocean views, private beaches and bespoke, luxury accommodation, we guarantee you’ll never want to leave.
This is a truly luxurious getaway, and the resorts here are like nothing you will have seen on Earth. You really catered for hand and foot, and there’s no escaping the attention to detail that has gone into these tailor-made experiences.

#3 – Vieques, Puerto Rico

Another gorgeous paradise escape, this time in the tiny Puerto Rican island of Vieques. The island is renowned for their luxurious accommodation options, and a ton of the things to do including exploring the expansive National Wildlife Reserve, relaxing on the beach, and you can’t miss the natural bioluminescent displays on the coasts of these white-sand beaches every night.

#4 – Agia Roumeli, Greece

Hopping across the pond and over into Europe now, this time heading right down the southern-most tip of Greece, specifically the island of Crete where you’ll discover the elusive village of Agia Roumeli. This area is famed for its stunning rich-blue ocean waters, authentic culture and then bordered by breath-taking mountains. While popular with tourists, you can’t deny the quiet beauty of the area.

The beaches here are pristine, and there’s a ton of historical and cultural activities, much of which is following traditional Greek heritages, to sink your teeth into. It doesn’t matter what interests you; you’re sure to find something to keep you interested while visiting the incredible village regions of Agia Roumeli.

#5 – Juneau, Alaska

If you’re looking to explore nature at its unspoiled finest, Juneau could deserve a place at the top of your bucket list. This tiny town is located on a tiny island on the eastern side of Alaska and is home to countless wonders, including the Mendenhall Glacier, Tracy’s Arm (an ocean valley inlet which is simply magnificent), and countless reserves and wildlife parks.

Most of the natural and urban wonders are well-connected here, with facilities like cable cars for accessing the mountain peaks and tram routes that stretch out into the more rural areas. A bat is required to get onto the island itself, although this is being made more accessible every single year.

#6 – Victoria Island, Argentina

Victoria Island is located in the heart of the Argentinian lake district, right up in the mountains, so if you’re looking for a natural, quiet, and peaceful excursion away from the bustle of Western civilization, this is for you.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy here, including hikes through the valleys and around the lakes, exploring the wonders of the Arrayan Forest, or simply relaxing and enjoying some well-deserved peace and quiet.

#7 – Waiahuakua, Hawaii

There’s no denying the beauty that is the island wonders of Hawaii, in particular, the Waiahuakua area. While there are plenty of traditional Hawaiian activities here, such as playing polo, long walks on the golden beaches, and admiring the life-changing sunsets, Waiahuakua is so much more.

From the sea caving experiences to trekking to the caved waterfall, it’s safe to say there’s no other place like this on Earth. With access to the state parks and glorious valleys, you’ll never run out of things to do in Waiahuakua.

#8 – Marble Cathedral, Chile

If the name of the incredible destination doesn’t captivate you already, allow us to fill in the blanks. The Marble Cathedral refers to the expansive cave network that’s, aptly, naturally formed entirely out of marble.
This, of course, has created a stunning wonderland that you’re able to explore by boat only, or by docking up and continuing the adventure on foot. This is easily one of the most spectacular and exclusive places on Earth and easily are regarded by many to be the most beautiful caves on the planet.

#9 – The Knoydart Peninsula, Scotland

Finally, we take a trip over to Scotland to what is renowned around the world as Britain’s Last Wilderness. The Knoydart Peninsula can be found near the West Coast of the Scottish Highlands and has been named in the top ten of numerous travel lists as being one of the best destinations you need to visit in your lifetime.

While the peninsula is remote and requires a boat, it is well worth the effort. Experience authentic Scottish towns and villages along the way before reaching the peninsula to discover an array of breath-taking mountains and valleys, as well as far-reaching flats that vary in color and density depending on the time of year.

Walking and hiking are the key activities here, so if you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing escape from the everyday grind of everyday life, this is the perfect place to unwind and catch your breath.
